In Belgium, the next Member State at the EU helm from July to December 2001, the Commission has entrusted the Centre de Recherche et d'Information des Organisations de Consommateurs (CRIOC) with the task of mobilising the country's consumer organisations and participating in the preparation of Consumers Day in Brussels, which will involve Belgium and the European Union concurrently in the same place and with the same programme.The European Bureau of Consumers' Unions (BEUC) has welcomed this consumer-oriented event, though Director Jim Murray hopes it will prove to be more than just an isolated annual event bereft of any practical consequences.
