SIAMU

The Service d'Incendie et d'Aide Médicale Urgente (SIAMU, firefighting and emergency medical assistance service) takes action in the event of fire and coordinates emergency medical assistance in the Region. It also provides first prevention and training services as well as looking after the safety of inhabitants of the Brussels-Capital Region.

Protection from risks and threats

The SIAMU protects the inhabitants of the Brussels-Capital Region from various potential risks.
 

  • In the event of fire or explosion firefighters depart from one of the nine stations located on the territory of the Brussels-Capital Region.
  • Every year the SIAMU checks fire safety measures at premises as well as compliance of the relevant (fire prevention) regulations.
  • The SIAMU provides emergency medical assistance to victims of accidents or medical emergencies. It coordinates the 100 and 112 call centers and the ambulances of the Brussels-Capital Region.
  • The SIAMU provides technical assistance in dangerous situations, including search and rescue of people and animals, clearing public roads, rescuing people at risk of drowning and underwater work, gas leaks and chemical threats, and destroying insect nests.
  • In the event of pollution the SIAMU detects, identifies and eliminates harmful substances. It also undertakes pumping and assists residents in the event of flooding.
