Exhibit

Baroque elegance. Isabelle de Borchgrave in the House Museum

An exhibition merging art and fashion in the 18th century

Description

The exhibition aims to create an ideal interaction between art and fashion. The works of Belgian artist Isabelle de Borchgrave (Brussels, 1946) are in fact not mere theatrical costumes or reproductions of historical garments, but authentic sculptures made entirely of paper that celebrate the elegance and style of 18th century Europe, of which the House Museum preserves true historical and artistic excellence.

Borchgrave’s creations naturally interact with the rooms and with part of the Zani collection. Thus, between the dresses and fashion accessories inspired by Madame de Pompadour and Marie Antoinette, and the paintings by Boucher, Canaletto, Guardi and the furnishings on display in the permanent exhibition of the House Museum, a delicate liaison is created, evocative of a sumptuous and inimitable elegance, that which seduced courts throughout Europe during the 18th century.
