Paris, France: Charles Pillet and Georges Petit, 1881. Book. Very good+ condition. Hardcover. First Edition. Small folio. 164 pages of text. Hardcover binding: quarter leather with red leather spine and paper-covered boards. Minor shelfwear; protected in custom stiff archival mylar. This catalogue contains 199 works illustrated with 54 full-page engraved plates, and six double-page engraved plates. In each margin are penciled numerals indicating prices realized (in francs). On a front endpaper, there is a handwritten signature "Boussod Valadon & Cie New York." Boussod, Valadon and Cie was founded in 1884 by Leon Boussod (1826-1896) and his son-in-law Retie Valadon (1848-1921) with the backing of Adolphe Goupil and his son Albert. The Paris office specialized in Impressionism, under the influence of Theo van Gogh, handling works by Monet and others. The engravings depict works by Sir William Beechey, Sir Thomas Lawrence, George Morland, William Mulready, Sir Joshua Reynolds, Jean-Honore Fragonard, Nicolas Lancret, Jean-Baptiste Pater, Jean-Baptiste Perronneau, Job Berckeyde, Ferdinand Bol, Pieter Codde, Gonzales Coques, Benjamin Cuyp, Aelbert Cuyp (double-page), Cornelis Dusart, Jan Van Goyen, Frans Hals (2), Frans Hals (younger) (4), Jan Van Der Heyden and Adriaan Vande Velde, Hans Holbein, Willem Kalf, Thomas De Keyser, Simon Andre Krausz, Nicolas Maes, Louis De Marne (double-page), Aart Van Der Neer, Rembrandt Harmens Van Rijn (4 including one double-page), Pierre-Paul Rubens (4), Salomon Van Ruysdael, Jan Steen, Anthonie Palamedesz Stevers [Palamedes], Juriaan Van Streek, Willem Van De Velde Le Jeune, Johannes Van Der Meer De Delft Vermeer, Arie De Vois, Emanuel De Witte, Jan Wynants, Charles Bargue (double-page), Alexandre-Gabriel Decamps, Eugene Delacroix, Narcisse Diaz De La Pena (2), Jules Dupre, Ernest Meissonier (double-page), Jean-Francois Millet, Gustave Ricard, Theodore Rousseau, Constant Troyon (3 of which one is double-page), and Felix Ziem.
