An Insect Called Fish (Silverfish, Lepismatidae)

So, I usually don’t go for dead insects unless they are in situ, in some sort of interesting final scene. (Think bug contorted in a spider’s web.) Not that I never do it, but posing dead insects isn’t as much fun or challenging, so I try to avoid it. Sometimes though, I find a subject that’s too hard to pass up, dead or alive.

Now, the reviled silverfish is not exactly the most interesting insect in the world (to me) (and many others), but they are also one of the least stationary insects I come across. So having found a critter passed on, I took the opportunity, and a colorful piece of printed matter, to get some snaps. That scaly, grey exterior really does say “fish” when you get a closer look. (Also, my identification search was very cursory, but I think I got the correct family. A couple closer shots below.)
