Ally McBeal, the legal comedy drama series, was a hit when it aired from 1997 to 2002. Over five seasons, we fell in love with the characters at Cage & Fish, and tuned in every week to see what would go down.
Now it's been 22 years since the finale aired, let's take a look back and see what our favourite lawyers are up to.
Robert Downey, Jr. was already an established star when he joined the cast of Ally McBeal for season four.
Larry Paul was supposed to eventually marry Ally, but Downey Jr. had to be written out of the show because of his drug problems.
Still, he was nominated for an Emmy and won a Golden Globe for his performance.
"I'm probably not the best person to ask about that period," he told The Guardian in 2003 about his time on Ally McBeal.
"It was my lowest point in terms of addictions. At that stage, I didn't give a f--k whether I ever acted again."
After taking some time off to get sober, Downey Jr returned to Hollywood for his comeback in two 2008 films – Tropic Thunder and Iron Man.
Now, thanks to his involvement in the Marvel franchise, he's one of the most commercially successful actors of all time.

Of course, the titular Ally McBeal was played by Calista Flockhart.
The show's creator David E. Kelley actually requested that Flockhart fly out to audition for the part as he was a fan of her previous acting work.
"When she walked in on a cold reading, she just was Ally," Kelley said of her audition.
Over the course of the show, Flockhart's portrayal of Ally earned her nominations for three Emmys, five Golden Globes (one of which she won), and four SAG awards
Calista Flockhart has continued acting in the two decades since Ally McBeal wrapped – most notably in the DC television series Supergirl and the beloved '00s series Brothers and Sisters.
Interestingly, she was offered the role of Susan Mayer on Desperate Housewives but declined. The part went to Teri Hatcher.
In 2002, Flockhart met Indiana Jones himself, Harrison Ford at the Golden Globe awards.
They fell in love, married in 2010, and share an adopted son.
At this year's Critics Choice Awards where Ford was given a special lifetime achievement award.
American TV host Kelly Ripa on Live with Kelly and Mark quizzed the actress about her relationship with the veteran star.
"He's afraid of me," Flockhart jokingly said.
"I'm just saying."
Playing Ally's ex-boyfriend Billy Thomas, Gil Bellows embodied the character perfectly.
While also filming Ally McBeal, he played Matt Callan on The Agency, another show created by David E. Kelley.
Even though Bellows initially only signed a one-year contract, his character ended up staying for three.
Gil Bellows has acted in a bunch of films and TV shows after leaving Ally McBeal after three seasons.
Most recently, he guest-starred on an episode of The Handmaid's Tale and in a historical drama titled Women of the Movement.
Courtney Thorne-Smith was already a veteran TV actor when she was cast on Ally McBeal – she played Allison Parker on Melrose Place from 1992 to 1997.
She was written out of the show at the beginning of season four.
Thorne-Smith later said part of the reason she left the show was the immense pressure she felt to stay thin while filming.
"I started undereating, overexercising, pushing myself too hard, and brutalizing my immune system," she told US Weekly.
"The amount of time I spent thinking about food and being upset about my body was insane."
After Ally, Thorne-Smith continued her career as a TV actress. She starred in According to Jim from 2000 to 2009, then joined the cast of Two and a Half Men the following year.
She published a novel, Outside In, in 2007.
For her role as office assistant Elaine, Jane Krakowski was nominated for a Golden Globe in 1999.
Jane Krakowski's stardom only grew after wrapping Ally – she went on to partner with Tina Fey on projects 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and earned five Emmy nods.
She's also lent her voice to numerous animated projects, including Open Season (2006), Pixels (2015), and The Willoughbys (2020).
Krakowski is currently starring in the Apple TV+ series Schmigadoon!
Lisa Nicole Carson was busy at the end of the 1990s: while playing Renee on Ally McBeal she also had a role on ER for five years.
While filming season four, Carson had a breakdown, was hospitalised, then diagnosed with bipolar disorder. She was given medication to manage her symptoms and went back to set, though her contract didn't get renewed for the show's final season.
"Everybody on the show was wonderful to me, but my contract wasn't renewed for the final season. Nobody gave me an explanation, but I assumed it had to do with what had happened. I was devastated," she wrote in an article for Essence.
After finishing up the fourth season of Ally, Carson took a break until 2012, when she reprised her role as Renee Raddick in the final episode of Harry's Law.
Her only project since then was in miniseries The New Edition Story in 2017.
Five years of playing Richard on Ally McBeal earned Greg Germann a SAG award and a long career as a recognisable character actor.
There's no doubt you recognise Germann's face from popping up in a bunch of your favourite shows.
He's had guest roles on shows including Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Desperate Housewives, Law & Order: SVU, and Raising Hope.
He's also played surgeon Tom Koracic for six seasons of Grey's Anatomy.
Australian actor Portia de Rossi was actually the most well-prepared of all her co-stars: she studied law at the University of Melbourne before moving to LA to act.
De Rossi worked hard to drop her Australian accent, and has landed roles in huge TV shows over the past two decades, including Scandal and Arrested Development.
In 2004, the star met comedian Ellen DeGeneres backstage at an award show, and they've been a couple ever since. They married in 2008.
Lucy Liu played the ruthless judge Ling Woo, making history as the only Asian actress in a main role on mainstream US TV at the time.
Liu originally auditioned for the role of Nelle, which went to Portia de Rossi. The show's creator, Kelley, liked Liu enough that he created the character of Ling Woo for her.
Ally McBeal kicked off Lucy Liu's acting career in a massive way.
She went on to star in films like Kill Bill, Charlie's Angels, and Chicago, along with a recurring role in the TV series Elementary. She joined the DC Extended Universe as Kalypso in 2023's Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
Liu is a single parent – she welcomed her son Rockwell in 2015 via a surrogate.
For his work playing eccentric lawyer John Cage, Peter MacNicol won an Emmy in 2001.
