LOVE the clear-coat. HATE the sanding kit

Posted by MidnightAK on Sep 3rd 2020

Their oxidization remover and sanding system sucks. They rely on a chemical stripper to remove the old clear coat and it doesnt work that well. They say not to worry because the sanding pads will take care of the rest. Well, 2000 grit sand paper is the roughest they give you. This is way too fine to remove much of if any oxidization/clear coat. Couple that with having to manually sand down the lenses and youre in for a long process if you have very wrecked lenses like I did. I sanded till their disks fell apart but the headlights still looked pretty hazed and spotted. Their instructions say that minor defects will disappear with their clear coat. It. Did. Not! It almost made my lenses look worse! I was shocked! That and it seems that as I applied the clear, parts of the lenses became foggy and rough. Like maybe the old varnish that didnt quite get removed reacted with the new clear. Idk, but I immediately called Cerakote and talked with a tech. They were super friendly and easy to talk to. As I had suspected, the old clear coat/oxidation had not fully been removed and that more sanding would be required. After asking about how to do that having expended the kit the tech got my information and overnighted a new kit to me. To me thats impressive service! No questions asked, just no problem, give me your shipping info. They shipped me a whole new kit to try again. In preparation for round 2 though, I went and bought a 3M headlight restoration kit that, although doesnt contain a clear coat protectant, it does come with a drill attachment and 500, 800, and 2000 grit sanding pads along with a buffing compound for the final polish. I can not describe how much better the 3M system is at sanding and preparing the lenses. The drill and the rougher sandpaper makes super easy work of sanding off all the junk and getting the lenses almost clear on its own! The sandpaper doesnt wear out nearly as quick as Cerakotes and because they give you more steps of sanding, I feel the 3M system is a must for super old/oxidized lenses. After following the 3M instructions I cleaned up my lenses and used the clear coat out of the replacement Cerakote system they had sent me. After applying the clear coat as instructed, I have to say I am sold on it! Just not sold on the kit. Ideally it would be nice if they just offered the clear coat packs but you unfortunately have to pay for their system. Youll see my photos that show a before/first round/ final round using 3m and Cerakotes clear. I love the clear coat, the warranty, and the customer service but I really wished their sanding system was like the 3M system. I would also think the Cerakote kit would be fine on its own to repair Minor oxidization but its worth it to get both systems for heavy/severe damaged lenses. Now that the saga is over with, I have some impressively clear headlights! From a distance they look brand new!

Decent product but not quite happy with results

Posted by Alex castillo on Sep 3rd 2020

The sand paper was destroyed before i could finish with it, not as great as i thought i bought two pack, but i'm not even using the second one on my other car. I think i could have just went with a cheaper option for same results.

Not worth it for the price

I had used 3M drill based headlight light restoration kits in the past and have had excellent results. I decided to give this ceramic kit a try and can say that the ease of use is not worth the mediocre results. Kit is very easy to use, but the overall improvement is lackluster compared to other kits.

having to redo headlight restoration after a couple years on several of my cars this restoration kit kit attracted me because of the lifetime guarantee ceramic coating...can't say much about longevity since procedure was done only a month ago but was very pleased with the results...kit included everything needed for a professional job.

Great Product To Get Clear Headlight Lenses Again

Posted by bevin on Sep 3rd 2020

I've tried five different kits to clean up the hazed headlights on my car and this is the only one that truly worked. All the other products were only tested on one of my headlights and none of them were good enough for me to use on the other headlight. The directions are easy to follow (and I had to do this work while my car was parked on the street in the bright sunlight...not the ideal working environment). The results are spectacular. I couldn't wait to get started on the other headlight. Now I have two clear headlight lenses. FYI, if the kit you're buying doesn't have any UV coating to apply to your lenses after making them clear, your lenses will cloud up again. It is the UV coating that keeps the lenses from deteriorating and clouding up. The better kits always have this coating (either a spray on or a wipe on UV coating).

Worked as advertised and as photos show. Wish I had done before and after photos. Definitely took some time to do but headlights are close to new looking.
