Curatorial note
Consisting of a tripod pedestal with a turned baluster shaped stem, with mouldings to base and top, on three plain legs of a flattened cabriole form; the leg is beech and probably Soane period; it once supported a different top with a tilt mechanism; the current quarter sawn oak top is older and is attached to the leg using four screws of which three are hand-cut and probably early nineteenth century.
The leg and the top were probably put together by Soane and this piece is almost certainly the ‘round wainscot table’ in the front kitchen at the time of Soane’s death.1
