Summary[edit]

Description

Neogoniolithon strictum (Foslie, 1901) - calcareous red algae (dead), washed up onto a rocky shoreline.

This red alga has a heavily mineralized skeleton with subcylindrical, irregularly bifurcating branches. The red spots are encrusting Homotrema rubrum foraminifera.

Classification: Rhodophyta, Florideophyceae, Corallinales, Corallinaceae

Locality: Snapshot Reef Beach, Fernandez Bay, western margin of San Salvador Island, eastern Bahamas
