On September 23, 1780, Major John Andre was making his way back to British lines after his secret meeting with Benedict Arnold. With just 15 miles to go before reaching his destination, he was caught and arrested near Tarrytown by three men, preventing "in all probability our suffering one of the severest strokes that could have been meditated against us."

Those men were lauded as heroes at the time, and should never be forgotten. Their names, the date, and the location where it happened can be seen here.
