Matthew was the son of Ellen Mary Plaskie. He married Beatrice Marie Hoover, the daughter of Claude McClellan Hoover & Virginia Gillenwater Hoover, on July 31, 1945 in Bristol, Virginia.
•Matthew J. “Matt” Plaskie, age 93, passed away Saturday, July 9, 2016 at the Louisiana War Veterans Home in Jackson, LA, where he had been a resident for the last several years. He was a native of Bristol, VA and a World War II veteran. Matt fought in all five major battles and was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his daughter and her husband; granddaughter and her husband; grandson, and two great-granddaughters. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife of 66 years, Beatrice, his son Joe and his grandson Michael.
A funeral service will be conducted 10:30 am Friday, July 15, 2016 in the Mountain View Cemetery with Father Timothy Weiss officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the Bristol VFW Honor Guard.
