Former Franklin resident, Victor Schurman, 87, passed away Monday, April 23, 2012 at Mary Lanning Memorial HealthCare, Hastings, Nebraska. Victor was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Franklin County to George J. and Emma (Lindau) Schurman.

On March 10, 1946, he married Elsie Althea Werrebroeck in Hildreth. She died Nov. 8, 1991. On Nov. 12, 1992, he married Christine Harris.

Survivors are: wife, Christine Schurman; sons, James Schurman and Michael Schurman and his friend, Patricia Reddick, all of Hastings; stepchildren, Patti Stoppelmoor of Panora, Iowa, Rhonda Versluys of Pella, Iowa, Jeffrey Harris of Taipei, Taiwan, and Janae Wise of Phoenix; grandchildren and spouses, Eric and Andrea Einspahr of Lincoln, Andrew Schurman of Juniata, Amber and Joe Harper of Oklahoma City and Michaela Schurman of Sidney; great-grandchildren, Alexis Harper and Bethany Harper; eight stepgrandchildren; three stepgreat-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Elmer Hinrichs of Hildreth; sister-in-law, Betty Evans of Omaha and a host of relatives and friends.

Victor was born and raised on the home place northeast of Franklin until 1961. He and his family moved to farm east of Franklin and moved back to Franklin in 1980.

Victor was an active member of Macon United Methodist Church until 1985 when he transferred to Franklin United Methodist Church. He served on both church boards.

Victor was a member of the Franklin Jaycees; named Outstanding Young Farmer of Franklin County in 1960 by Franklin Jaycees and was one of the finalists in the Nebraska State Outstanding Young Farmer; 1961 Franklin Jaycees president; charter member and past president of Franklin Lions Club; 1976 Lower Republican Natural Resources District Conservation Award; member of Kearney Benevolent Protection Order of Elks 984; charter member of Republican Valley Eagles until disbanded; past member of Fort Kearney Aerie 2722 Fraternal Order of Eagles; member of A.F. & A.M. 264, Franklin; Scottish Rite, Hastings; Tehama Shrine, Hastings; South Central Shrine Club; Franklin Flivver; treasurer of Wells Fargo Investment Club until disbanded; member of the Rio Grande Nomad Shrine Club, McAllen, Texas; served on the Franklin County Centennial Committee; and Shrine Clown Unit.

Victor traveled extensively in Europe, Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean, Hawaii and the United States, and his family made their winter home in McAllen and Pharr, Texas, since 1975.

In addition to: wife, Althea, he was preceded in death by parents; son, Douglas Gene Schurman; infant sister; infant brother; brothers, George Schurman, Carl Schurman and Albert Schurman; and sisters, Lottie Blank, Martha Kissinger, Nellie Schurman, Lillie Bunger, Tilie Silas, Katy Potter and Jennie Hinrichs.

Interment was in the Greenwood Cemetery, Franklin, NE.
