SUMMARY
Anamorph: Probably Fusarium s.l. sp. , from the F. merismoides clade (Samuels & Seifert 1991, Gräfenhan et al. 2011).
Teleomorph: ascomata superficial to partially immersed in clusters of up to 10 in a soft, blackened mass of host conidia, 250-320 µm diam. when fully hydrated, globose to broadly pyriform, bright red to dark red, ± smooth, mostly not collapsed when dry, the apex minutely papillate and more darkly pigmented. Peridium composed of an outer layer of thick-walled globose to angular pigmented cells 9-14 µm diam., and an inner layer of hyaline flattened cells. Interascal tissue not seen, the ostiole lined with narrow curved apical paraphyses to ca 30 µm long and 1.5 µm diam. Asci 78-90 x 8-10.5 µm, cylindrical, fairly short-stalked, the apex obtuse to rounded, thin-walled, not fissitunicate, without clearly defined apical structures, not blueing in iodine, 8-spored. Ascospores ± uniseriately arranged, 12.5-15.9 (-18.6) x 6.4-8.1 (-8.7) µm, at first ellipsoidal to ellipsoidal-fusiform, cylindric-ellipsoidal when completely mature, the ends rounded, slightly constricted at the median septum and pale brown when completely mature, smooth- and thin-walled, without a gelatinous sheath or appendages.
