SUMMARY
Colonies dark grey, sometimes becoming reddish brown, olivaceous or ± black, velvety.
Anamorph: conidiomata absent. Conidiophores forming a dense mat, developing from minute basal stromata, arising singly or in small groups, branched at the apex. Stipe 100-500 µm long, 9-14 µm diam. at the base and 5-8 µm diam. at the apex, almost cylindrical but usually swollen at the base, straight or slightly flexuous, the lower part smooth and dark reddish brown to black, upper part paler, smooth or minutely verruculose. Primary branches formed singly or in pairs, bearing secondary branches which may branch again, the ultimate branches being doliiform. Branches usually short, pale to mid brown, smooth or verruculose. Conidia 10-25 (-50) x 5-8 µm, almost cylindrical but usually somewhat thicker in the centre, often slightly curved, rounded or flattened at the ends, 1- to 7-septate and slightly constricted at the septa, pale to mid brown, minutely verruculose, branched conidia frequent.
