 THE FACILITY
The Philip & Cheryl Milstein Family Tennis Center serves as the home court for the Columbia men’s and women's varsity teams. The facility opened in February 2023 and features 12 courts (six indoor, six outdoor).

The Milstein Tennis Center is a state-of-the-art facility also has coaches’ offices, conference rooms, meeting spaces, a strength and conditioning area, student-athlete lounge, locker rooms for Columbia’s men’s and women’s tennis teams and Tennis Center members, as well as hospitality areas.

The center is also available for use by Columbia University alumni, faculty, staff, parents, students and anyone working in one of the hospitals affiliated with Columbia. Unaffiliated players may be sponsored by one of the members.

The new facility will also feature numerous spectator amenities, including a high-resolution scoreboard with video capability, and chairback seating at every single court (indoors and out) as well as hospitality areas for special events.

The Tennis Center is located in a beautifully landscaped area of Baker Athletics Complex (218th Street, west of Broadway) which overlooks the Hudson and Harlem rivers.

As part of Columbia’s Baker Athletics Complex, located at the corner of 218th Street and Broadway Avenue at the northern tip of Manhattan, the Milstein Tennis Center is at the heart of Columbia’s Baker Athletics Complex. The courts are surrounded by Columbia’s athletic facilities including Campbell Sports Center, Chrystie Field House, Robert K. Kraft Field at Lawrence A. Wien Stadium, Rocco B. Commisso Soccer Stadium and Robertson Field at Satow Stadium.

The tract of land on which the Baker Athletics Complex stands was purchased for the University on December 30, 1921, by financier George F. Baker. Then a $700,000 gift, the 26-acre area was dedicated in April 1922 and hosted spring football practice that same year. In the fall, Columbia's football team continued to practice uptown but played its games at South Field on the Morningside Heights Campus. The first stadium at the site, then known as Baker Field, opened in the fall of 1923 with 15,000 seats in temporary stands. Five years later, the University built the 32,000 wooden-seat stadium that served Columbia fans for 55 years, until the spring of 1983.

Baker has been upgraded several times since 2005, including state-of-the-art surfaces for all Columbia teams that compete at Baker Athletics Complex. Columbia's baseball, field hockey, softball and soccer teams all play on sport-specific surfaces for their respective sports.
