Agri Health Matters will be on hand at The West Country Farming & Machinery Show to give out health checks for visitors who wish to drop by their stand.

The Devon Air Ambulance Trust

The Devon Air Ambulance Trust will also be attending the show. It is a charity which provides emergency medical services through the provision of two helicopter-based air ambulances and two critical care cars, which cover the county of Devon in South West England.

“We are very much looking forward to attending the West Country Farming & Machinery Show and hope to meet lots of people from Devon’s farming community,” said Ginette Gisborne, Communications Manager at Devon Air Ambulance. “We often attend agricultural

incidents that can involve anything from injuries involving livestock to those sustained when working with huge pieces of machinery.

“If you’ve been helped by Devon Air Ambulance and you’re planning to visit the show, do come along to our stand and meet the team.”

Bridgwater and Taunton College

That’s not all! Bridgwater & Taunton College will also be exhibiting at the event. UCS offers a range of vocational degrees at campuses in Taunton, Bridgwater and Cannington. Their Agricultural Management degrees can fit around

existing work commitments and cover the technical and managerial aspects of running a farm. Potential graduate roles include rural surveyor, farm contractor, senior herdsman or associated food industries management.

Bicton and Duchy College

Bicton and Duchy College will also be represented at the show, with their apprenticeship team on hand to discuss employers’ needs and offer guidance to anyone considering an apprenticeship. With its new University Centre status, the team can also talk attendees through its degree offering.

Agri-tech project launch in Devon

A PILOT project has been launched to help support the growth of Devon’s agricultural industry.

The £500,000 Devon County Council scheme, named the DATA (Devon Agri-Tech Accelerator) project, is aiming to provide support and research for farmers, growers, landowners, and other agricultural and agritech businesses to develop innovations that will help build a sustainable farming community in the county.

Other aspects of the scheme will involve looking at ways of reducing Devon’s carbon footprint, enhancing farm productivity, supporting the local economy and growing the agriculture and the agri-tech business sector.

The combined efforts of Devon County Council, Business Information Point, Duchy College Rural Business School, and the University of Plymouth will add momentum to the project that will cover four key areas.

This includes research and mapping, building an agri-tech alliance of farmers, horticultural, aquacultural and forestry busi-

nesses, creating a farm innovation pilot and forming a knowledge exchange and voucher scheme pilot, Councillor Rufus Gilbert, Devon County Council cabinet member for economic recovery and skills, said: “A flourishing farming industry is vital for our rural communities, and it underpins the region’s food and drink sector which is so important for our local economy. Through research and support, this project is aiming to ensure that agriculture in Devon can benefit from the use of technology, with farming and agri-tech communities working closely together.

“We’re looking for farm businesses, specifically in West Devon and Torridge, to take part in the farm innovation pilot of the project.
