Person Charged in Chickasaw County Burglary Sentenced to Prison

A person charged in connection with a 2021 burglary of a residence just north of New Hampton has pleaded guilty in court.

On December 7th, the Chickasaw County Sheriff’s Office was called to 1879 North Linn Avenue for a possible burglary in progress. As a result of the original burglary call, a several month investigation began, leading to several search warrants being executed and the recovery of stolen property from that residence.

In a press release, the sheriff’s office says Joseph Hinck has pleaded guilty to second degree burglary, a Class C Felony. As a habitual offender, Hinck was sentenced to 15 years in prison with a minimum confinement of three years.

Additional burglary subjects are still going through court proceedings including Jason Brunning, charged with ongoing criminal conduct, a Class B felony; second-degree burglary, a Class C felony; plus third degree burglary and being a felon in possession of a firearm, both class D felonies.

Billy Herman and Madison Clay are both charged with third-degree burglary and Eric Moen was charged with attempted third-degree burglary and possession of burglary tools, both aggravated misdemeanors. Additional criminal charges are pending as the investigation continues.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted in the case by the Chickasaw County Attorney’s Office; New Hampton, Charles City and Rochester Minnesota Police Departments; Floyd County and Fillmore County Minnesota Sheriff’s Offices; and the Iowa State Patrol.
