TOPPENISH - Sasquatch researchers and enthusiasts from all over the country gathered at Legends Casino this weekend, sharing personal experiences and selling hand-crafted souvenirs.

This was the second annual Bigfoot Convention in Toppenish.

Organizers say it was an amazing turn out with hundreds of people coming by to check out the vendors and listen to speakers talk about their encounters with the tall, hairy creatures.

"We've invited speakers and different organizations from all over the United States to come tell their stories mostly focusing on Bigfoot's not a monster and that it's like any other creature - deserves respect and protection," said Hollyanna Littlebull, one of the convention organizers.

Since the 1950's many have questioned whether Sasquatch is real or just a made-up myth.

For others, it's far more than just a legend.

Over the years Sasquatch has gained several different names and meanings in the Yakama Nation and the large community of those who believe and search the forests continues to grow.

"Before they were just stories as I grew up, but as I got my education out in the woods with them it turns out they really are there. they actually thrive and live as we have previously before everything we currently have," said Mel Skahan, who brought in the speakers who he's met on his Bigfoot journeys.

The Bigfoot Con is in the works for 2024 and is expected to be even bigger than this year.
