Benny Bonilla joined the Long Beach State baseball program prior to the 2019 season as the volunteer assistant coach. He has previous college coaching experience at his alma mater, Loyola Marymount, and Cal State Los Angeles.
Bonilla was a left-handed pitcher at LMU from 1997-2000, where he set the single-season winning percentage record on the mound by going 9-1 as a senior. He signed with the Arizona Diamondbacks after college and spent two years in the organization.
He began his coaching career as an associate head coach at Carlsbad High School, and moved to the college ranks as LMU’s pitching coach in 2007. He has also served as a director of baseball operations at San Diego State and LMU. After leaving LMU in 2014 he’s been the owner of TB SoCal Baseball, a top local club team.
