LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Calista Flockhart has TV executives fuming as she delays her return to 'Ally McBeal'. The 57-year-old mother-of-one shot to popularity in the quirky legal drama's main role with Jane Krakowski, Greg Germann, and Lucy Liu, and has since been enjoying a quiet life with her 80-year-old superstar husband, Harrison Ford.

Twenty years after the show's cancellation, ABC executives plan to resurrect the series and want Flockhart to return. However, Radar Online revealed that the actress isn't very interested in the role. "Calista is extremely choosy about the few roles she takes these days," spilled an insider. "It’s got to really appeal to her because she prefers a low-key lifestyle, traveling back and forth from L.A. to Wyoming with her man."

"She hasn’t totally said no, but she isn’t exactly jumping on the project, either. The issue is whether she wants to dive back into the Hollywood goldfish bowl, which is what the Ally McBeal reboot would certainly require. The show bosses are doing everything to persuade her right now. But it’s 50-50 at best," the source added.

The Fox television series 'Ally McBeal', which aired from 1997 to 2002, starred Flockhart as Ally, a lawyer who works at the Boston legal firm 'Cage and Fish' with her ex-lover and his wife. It portrayed Ally's struggles as she searched for love and happiness in life. The dramedy's primary focus was on the sexual and emotional relationships of its lead characters, frequently using courtroom drama as a story device. In 1999, the show took home the Emmy for Outstanding Comedy Series.

Written and executive produced by Karin Gist, the reboot will follow a young Black woman who joins the law firm from the original series straight out of law school. The young woman is believed to be the daughter of Ally McBeal’s (Flockhart) DA roommate Renée Raddick, who was played by Lisa Nicole Carson in the series.

Over the past 20 years, Flockhart has maintained a rather quiet profile. She agreed to play the lead in Ryan Murphy's upcoming season of 'Feud', which will air next year. The actress's previous roles were less frequent, however, she did appear in 27 episodes of 'Supergirl' on The CW. Her last significant project was the ABC series 'Brothers & Sisters', which aired from 2006 to 2011, as per Radar.
