A reader starts planning ahead for GTA’s 25th anniversary in 2022 and calls for a remake of the very first entry in the franchise.

In October of 1997, the world witnessed the release of a masterfully crafted video game that offered open-world shoot ‘em-up fun combined with the unique ability to enter vehicles and run rampant doing what you wished to do. Adding to this was radio stations and missions, along with three full cities and maps.

While GTA 1, London, and GTA 2 were amazing games this was only the tip of the iceberg and triggered one of the greatest revolutions in open world exploration. GTA 3, which was the next generation of Grand Theft Auto game, made it to the PlayStation 2 console and was a prime example as to how a series can go from strength to strength. GTA: Vice City offered enterable interiors and usable helicopters and then San Andreas, along with both Liberty City and Vice City Stories, created one of the most popular eras of the series.

With the 25th anniversary due to hit in October of 2022, what exactly can Rockstar do to celebrate the launch of the original Grand Theft Auto game?

The first original Grand Theft Auto, along with London and GTA 2, has never seen a remaster or a reboot and this would be a great treat for fans of the series to celebrate the anniversary. Before you wonder if it would be profitable for Rockstar just take a look at some of the fanbase’s dedication in showing how a reboot of the first game can be done. A respectable example is demonstrated by Duke Theft Auto, which shows just how good the game looks on an updated engine.

Rockstar could keep the story and characters the same in the remake and keep the same areas that GTA 1 had but could also add some online features as an extra perk for fans of the original. Given how long it will take GTA 6 to be made and released this would be a nice title to play until then and would be a great way to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the launch of the original game.

GTA London and GTA 2 could also come included and would introduce the newer generation to the original games in a newer and more up-to-date quality. I don’t know what Rockstar will do but considering the first GTA created this revolution it’s only fair to remake the original games into a newer engine while keeping the storylines, maps and characters intact.

Thank you for reading and I will see you all in the future, in October 2022, to see what happens on the 25th anniversary of Grand Theft Auto.
