  • Patent number: 11882794
Abstract: A stuffer assembly includes a stuffer chute and a stuffer for transferring crop material from the stuffer chute into a baling chamber. The stuffer includes a tine bar having a plurality of tines. Each tine is slidably connected to the tine bar to be linearly movable with respect to the tine bar between an extended position and a retracted position parallel to a radial direction of the tine bar. A method accordingly includes retracting a tine from the extended position into the retracted position in case of an overload.

  • Patent number: 11172619
Abstract: An agricultural system including an agricultural baler and a control unit. The agricultural baler includes a pick-up arrangement for collecting plant matter. The pick-up arrangement includes a roller for feeding crop into the baler. The baler further includes a pick-up drive shaft for moving the roller at a desired rotational speed. The pick-up drive shaft is connected to the roller by a clutch for selectively transferring power between the pick-up drive shaft and the roller. The control unit is configured to: receive clutch-status-data indicative of an engagement status of the clutch; determine a speed-control-signal for varying the rotational speed of the pick-up drive shaft based on the clutch-status-data; and provide the speed-control-signal to a driveline for driving the pick-up drive shaft.

  • Patent number: 6958012
Abstract: A concave arrangement is disclosed for a threshing machine such as a combine harvester 10. The arrangement includes a concave 30 having a moveable rear portion 48 that is adapted to vary the break-over angle presented to straw passing downstream. A flap member 54 is provided that moves jointly with the moveable rear portion 48 and ensures that a gap G between the moveable portion 48 and a later processing stage such as a beater apparatus is kept substantially closed. Variation of the break-over angle influences the length of the straw leaving the threshing machine and the loading of the further separation and cleaning mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 6915736
Abstract: A baler is described which has a collection chamber or duct and a baling chamber. Crop material enters the duct until a pre-determined level has been reached at which time a stuffer transfers the pre-compressed crop to the baling chamber. A control system is provided for calculating the ratio between the amount of crop material which should be formed into bales under optimal conditions and the rate of flow of crop material entering the duct. This ratio can be displayed and used to control the speed of the towing vehicle. The present invention uses the duct as a kind of measuring cylinder to determine the rate at which crop material is entering the baler.

  • Patent number: 6457405
Abstract: An agricultural baler comprises a frame, a pick-up assembly for picking up crop material from a field and a baling chamber for receiving crop material from the pick-up assembly, the baling chamber having at least one movable wall portion. A plunger is mounted for reciprocating movement in the baling chamber for compression of the crop material therein, the plunger being driven by a gearbox which is affixed to the frame. A control unit adjusts the position of the movable wall portion in response to the signal from a load sensor, which is connected by a lever to the plunger gearbox for monitoring the reaction forces of the crop material on the plunger during the compression stroke. The lever arrangement includes a longitudinal pull member connected to one arm of the lever and a ball bearing mounted over the load sensor and connected to the other arm of the lever for precluding the effects of transverse or upward vibrations of the gearbox on the sensor.

  • Patent number: 6450524
Abstract: An agricultural implement, such as a baler comprises a main frame and a hitch for attachment of the implement to a towing vehicle. The frame is supported on a bogie comprising a pair of steerable wheels. A pair of hydraulic rams can block these wheels in a fore-and-aft position for reversing the baler or for preventing fluttering during road transport. Hydraulic circuitry, which is used for controlling functions of said implement, such as the retraction of a bale chuteor the operation of a bale eject apparatus can be used to actuate the rams. The rams are loaded by providing pressurized oil to the return line and using a non-return valve for making the oil flow to the guiding the said circuitry to the rams.

  • Patent number: 6134870
Abstract: An agricultural baler comprises a baling chamber and pick-up device for collecting crop material from a field and feeding it to conveyor mechanism which transports it into the baling chamber. A plunger reciprocates therein for compressing the crop material to a package and a tying mechanism encircles the package with one or more strands of tying material, thereby forming a completed bale. The baler comprises bale discharge device disposed at the outlet of the baling chamber, the bale discharge device being movable between an extended position for receiving the completed bale and depositing it onto the field and a retracted position for reducing the overall length of the baler. In the retracted position, a rear portion of the bale discharge device is rested on a support on top of the baling chamber. The discharge device are held in their retracted position by the rear portion itself.

  • Patent number: 6026741
Abstract: An agricultural baler having a baling chamber and apparatus for loading successive charges of crop material into the chamber. The cross section of the baling chamber is automatically adjusted to the load experienced by the plunger during compression of these charges and thereby controlling the density of the bales formed therein. The density control system further comprises elements associated with the actuator of the baling chamber for precluding adjustment of the cross section when no new charge of crop material has been introduced into the baling chamber. These elements comprise a sensor sensing the passage of such charge along a wall portion of the baling chamber and a by-pass valve which controls the pressure of hydraulic oil provided to the actuator. Thus the cross section of the baling chamber is prevented from being reduced further when the baler is turned on headlands.

  • Patent number: 5467702
Abstract: An agricultural baler (1) having a duct (26) for the transportation of crop material to a bale case (10), wherein it is compressed into bales. Above the duct (26) is provided a loading device comprising a pair of cyclically rotating cranks (74), pivotably connected to a pair of levers (72) of a stuffing fork assembly (66). During operation the levers (72) are moved along journals (88) which fit in oblong slots (90) of said levers (72). The journals (88) are installed on pivotable members (94) which are forced upwardly in a first position against stop members (98, 100) by springs (99). Upon rotation of the cranks (74) the tines (70) of the fork follow a generally kidney-shaped path (92). When the tines enter the duct (26), the pivot members (94) are forced downwardly to a second position by the abutment of the journals (88) against plugs (106) in the slots (90), whereafter they are force upwardly by the cam member (102) of the cranks (74).

  • Patent number: 5090307
Abstract: A shear bolt coupling incorporated in a drive transmission of an agricultural baler comprises a first rotatable member, a second rotatable member disposed coaxial with the first rotatable member, and a shear bolt operatively interconnecting the first and second rotatable members for transmitting power therebetween during normal operation. The shear bolt is arranged to shear off under excessive load conditions in order to interrupt power transmission between the rotatable members and thereby permit the rotatable members to move relative to each other. A shear bolt introducing lever is operatively associated with either the first or the second rotatable member for urging the shear bolt into a drive coupling position wherein the rotatable members are drivingly coupled together.
