This scanning electron microscopic (SEM) image reveals some of the ultrastructural morphology exhibited by this pigmented, or dematiaceous mold, Xylohypha nigrescens, which is known to be the cause for the diseases phaeohyphomycosis, chromoblastomycosis, and mycetoma.
