About

Robert Denis

Originally from the suburbs of Detroit, I currently live in Tbilisi (Rep. of Georgia), where I research and write about the Caucasus, Russia, and other places and things. I also work as a translator from Russian and Azeri to English. My writing and translations have been published by Baku Research Institute, the Dostoevsky Museum (St. Petersburg), Freedom House (Washington DC), Literratura, and others, as well as in several peer-reviewed academic publications.

With my friend and colleague, Prof. Naomi Caffee (Reed College), I co-founded ‘Beyond Caricature,’ a project about the life and work of the prolific early 20th-century artist and educator from the Caucasus, Oskar Schmerling.
