I obtained my MSC degree in marine biology (genetic of populations) from the University of Tromsø (Norway) and defended my PhD thesis in microbial ecology at the University of Helsinki (Finland). My research work consisted in characterising the activity and diversity of methanogenic Archaea in boreal peatlands. My current Post-Doc position gives me the opportunity to combine my two backgrounds, marine biology and microbiology, by working with aquatic microbial ecology.

The goal of my current research is to describe communities of microorganisms in the Arctic and to determine factors that explain their distribution and ecological function. The study areas include riverine and coastal waters and the Arctic Ocean. The microbial communities are analyzed by targeting phylogenetical markers (16S rRNA and 18S rRNA) and functional genes (amoA) with molecular methods such as qPCR, DGGE, cloning, RFLP and sequencing.
