Gilles Mahieu

Governor, Province of Walloon Brabant

Governor of the Province of Walloon Brabant since 1st October 2015, Gilles Mahieu has a degree in criminology from the Université libre de Bruxelles. He was Secretary General of the Socialist Party (2008 to September 2015), Chief of Staff to the Minister for Culture and Broadcasting (2004 to 2008), Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Mons, Elio Di Rupo (2001 to 2004), Deputy Chief of Staff to the Minister for Urban Policy, Charles Picqué (1999-2000), Chief of Staff to the Mayor of Mons, Maurice Lafosse (1995 to 1999) and Director of the Security Policy for the City of Mons (1993 to 1994).

An honorary reserve officer, he has been a director of numerous companies and organisations, including the King Baudouin Foundation, Loterie Nationale SA, the Mons 2015 Foundation, SRIW and invest Star't SA, as well as non-profit organisations active in the fields of prevention and culture. Gilles Mahieu was very active in the European Forum for Urban Security (Efus) in the 1990s and 2000s.
