Chocolate Week 5/5 : World's Champion @ Pierre Marcolini (Brussels/Paris, and more)

Finally today is the last episode of my Chocolate Week blog! I have been introducing some of my favourite Belgian chocolatiers this week as the Valentine's week special. The last episode is about the award-winning world famous chocolatier who created the most stylish chocolate maison in Belgium - it is the one and only Pierre Marcolini.

World Champion of Pastry - award-winning world famous chocolatier

This Belgian guy Pierre Marcolini opened his first shop in Brussels in 1995, and in the same year, he was crowned 'World Champion of Pastry'. His name has spread worldwide - today you can find his stores in Paris, Tokyo, Monaco, London and more.., and of course it’s everywhere in Belgium.

The reason why I’m attracted to this particular brand so much is not only their deliciousness, but their stylishness. The delicate packaging, those black boxes, the logo, the beautiful presentation in the shop, the petit size of their pralines, the colour... visuals and taste all combine to make it to absolute perfection, which I really love about this brand.

They have more than 60 varieties of pralines, which are infused with exotic scents and flavours.

My recommendation

I used to have almost on a weekly base this conversation with my colleagues who are on a business trip in Brussels.

A colleague : ‘I have a few hours free in Brussels before my flight, and want to get some chocolates for my wife and family. Which shop should I go to? I’m in Grand Place (the central square in Brussels), but there are so many chocolate shops here, help!!!’

Me : (immediately) 'Go to Pierre Marcolini. Make sure you get a box of 'Champagne Truffles' for your wife, and a box of 'La Malline Découverte' for your family. Easy, the job is done. Enjoy your free time with some Belgian beer!'

My choice of pralines for today

I selected these four pralines today. I carefully arrange them on a delicate plate and admire them for a while before eating, which has become a routine of my Pierre Marcolini chocolate time - a bit of a 'Zen' moment. I enjoyed the amazingly smooth texture which melts so quickly in my mouth and the fabulous scent – heavenly!

So that was about Pierre Marcolini. Having lived in Belgium for several years, I have tried so many different chocolatiers, but Pierre Marcolini has been, and still is, by far my favourite.
