A flexible termination between a submersible repeater housing and a submarine cable comprises a double ball link bar (20) and a cooperating socket (12) coupled to the repeater housing (1) and a similar socket (11) coupled to the cable. This enables a compact lightweight flexible termination having a large angle of flexure. In an alternative embodiment a double gimbal arrangement is used.

A repeater access cable contains transmission members enclosed in a protective tube which is in turn covered by a sheath, and which has a free end making a connection to a splice box. The free end is equipped with a coupling fixed on the protective tube stripped of its sheath. The repeater access cable coupling screws onto an entrance of the splice box and is fixed by crimping and gluing that end portion of the coupling which remains outside the splice box onto the protective tube. The connection has application to an optical cable under-sea link.

A mechanical fuse for a cable connection tail of a submarine repeater in a cable transmission link, said cable connection tail extending from a case for repeater equipment, having a "free" end for connection to the head of a line cable fixed to the repeater when the link is laid, and including a tube which encloses the transmission-providing elements. The mechanical fuse comprises a plug (40) threaded over and fixed to the end of the tube (30) at the free end of the cable connection tail, a ring (41) fitted over the plug (40) and free to escape from the plug (40) in a direction running away from the cable connection tail, and mechanically fixed to the cable head, and a set of pins (42) transversely connecting the ring (41) to the plug (40) and having a cumulative shear strength which is less than the breaking strength of the tube of the cable connection tail.

A submarine apparatus is laid undersea by a submarine-cable laying device. The submarine apparatus comprises a cylindrical body performing a signal processing, a conical boot arranged at each of both ends of the body so as to fix an end of a submarine cable, and a gimbal joint provided on each of both ends of the body so as to support an end of an arm portion extending from the boot. The diameter of an end of the boot is smaller than a diameter of each of both ends of the body. A spacer mechanism is provided between the body and the boot so as to occupy a part of a space therebetween.

An optical fiber connector with aligning means is suitable for varied fibers, which is provided with a sleeve member, jacket for covering the sleeve member and stressing buffer members. The sleeve member has a "<" shaped outline, and both opposite ends with flare hole enlarging out. The jacket is a cylinder, and has an opening at its center section. The fibers can be inserted into the opposite flare holes respectively, and be guided to the V-shaped groove at center section via three "?" shaped rods for making fiber alignment conveniently, then fitting the stressing buffer members for completing fasten combination of single terminal or two terminals of fibers. The present invention has an integral structure that can decrease splicing loss, and can be adapted to utilize and to measure various optical properties.
