The 50 N,Z 82 region of the Segre chart, spanning the nuclei “northwest” of doubly-magic 132Sn, is an intriguing study ground to test the suitability and predictive power of nuclear models at both low and high spins. Low-spin excited states in the nearly spherical nuclei near proton- and neutronshell closures are well described as anharmonic vibrations [1] with a gradual change to rotational structures further away from the closed shells. Further on, quasiparticle excitations play a key role and are responsible for the presence of yrast-trap isomers. These long-lived states interrupt and fragment the decay flux in spectroscopic investigations. High-j couplings involving the unique-parity h11/2 neutron-hole orbital give rise to a wealth of high-spin states with multi-quasiparticle character. In particular, detailed knowledge of isomers is crucial to ascertain the active quasiparticle configurations in the specific nucleus.

The response of AGATA segmented HPGe detectors to gamma rays in the energy range 2–15 MeV was measured. The 15.1 MeV gamma rays were produced using the reaction d( 11 B,ng) 12 Ca t Ebeam¼ 19.1 MeV, while gamma rays between 2 and 9 MeV were produced using an Am–Be–Fe radioactive source. The energy resolution and linearity were studied and the energy-to-pulse-height conversion resulted to be linear within 0.05%.Experimental interaction multiplicity distributions are discussed and compared with the results of Geant4 simulations. It is shown that the application of gamma-ray tracking allows a suppression of background radiation caused by n-capture in Ge nuclei. Finally the Doppler correction for the 15.1 MeV gamma line, performed using the position information extracted with Pulse-shape analysis is discussed.

A striking difference between gamma spectra of neutron-rich Rh isotopes obtained with the laser ion source at the Leuven Isotope Separator On-Line facility has been observed depending on the mode of operation. Although the global production rate of 112Rhg,m nuclei decreases considerably, the ratio between the productions of 112Rhg and 112Rhm increases strongly when no laser ionisation is used. This

An on-line laser ion source is used at the Leuven Isotope Separator On-Line (LISOL) for the production of pure beams of exotic nuclei. The operational principal of the ion source is based on the element-selective multistep laser resonance ionization of nuclear reaction products thermalized and neutralized in a high-pressure noble gas. A number of improvements have been carried out to improve the ion source parameters.

ABSTRACT MINOS is a new apparatus dedicated to in-beam nuclear structure experiments with low-intensity exotic beams in inverse kinematics at intermediate energies above 150MeV/nucleon. The device is composed of a thick liquid-hydrogen target coupled to a compact time projection chamber (TPC) serving as a vertex tracker. Either used for in-beam gamma spectroscopy of bound excited states or invariant-mass spectroscopy of unbound states, MINOS aims at improving the luminosity by a very significant factor compared to standard solid-target material experiments while improving experimental resolutions.

The interaction position resolution of the segmented HPGe detectors of an AGATA triple cluster detector has been studied through Monte Carlo simulations and in an in-beam experiment. A new method based on measuring the energy resolution of Doppler-corrected γ‐ray spectra at two different target to detector distances is described. This gives the two-dimensional position resolution in the plane perpendicular to

ABSTRACT Excited states in 56Cr have been populated after 48Ca(11B,p2n) reactions at a beam energy of 32 MeV. The Cologne plunger device surrounded by a γ-detector array of one EUROBALL cluster detector and five Ge detectors was employed to determine lifetimes with the recoil distance Doppler shift method. γγ-coincidence data were analyzed using the differential decay curve method and precise lifetimes for the first 2+ and 4+ state of τ=5.49(14) ps and τ=3.15(11) ps, respectively, were extracted. The corresponding B(E2; 2+→0+)=11.33(31) W.u. quantifies with a high accuracy the puzzling discrepancy between experimental B(E2) values in N=32 isotones and theoretical results from large-scale shell model calculations employing modern effective nucleon-nucleon interactions.
