Measures: Total height: 49cm Base diameter: 13 cm Weight: 4.6 kg Hippolyte Francois Moreau is a French sculptor for his bronze statuettes of young women. Born in 1832 in Dijon, France, the son of the famous sculptor Jean-Baptiste Moreau, he grew up learning in his father's studio. As a young man, Moreau moved to Paris to study with Francois Jouffroy at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts, exhibited for the first time at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1863 and continued to present his works there until 1914. Both in 1878 and in 1900, he won medals for his large-scale decorative works, vases and statuettes, which he showed at the Universal Exhibition in Paris. Among his famous sculptures is his 1880 statue of the French mathematician Alexis Clairaut, which is now part of one of the facades of the City of Paris. He died in 1927 in Neuilly-sur-Seine in France and today most of his works are in the Dijon Museum of Fine Arts.
