About this Item
Three volume set in publisher's brown calf, decorative devices incised and stamped in the corners of the covers, triangular brass bosses mounted to the fore-edges of each cover with tiny nails -- two of three rear bosses retain their small attached chains (a simulacrum of chained bindings from closer to the time of Dante Alighieri), The bindings are intact and integral, some of the corners are worn, with the tip lost from one; the decorative brass bosses protrude from the surface of the covers and have caused some scratches as these volumes have been removed and replaced from shelves over the last century. Internal hinges on one volume are cracking, but holding. This is a set meant to represent a "collected works" of Dante, all in the editions of Pietro Fraticelli [1803-1866], whose editorial work on Dante remained popular for many decades after his death. One volume is devoted to La Divina Commedia (1907), 623 & cxlix pp. The other two volumes contain "Le opere minori" -- volume I: "Il Canzoniere, le Rime sacre e le Poesie latine." The final volume has bound together the opere minori part two: "la Vita Nuova, i Trattati De Vulgari Eloquio, De Monarchia e la questione De Acqua et Terra; and part three: "Il Convito e le Epistole.".
