About the authors
Terry Pratchett sold his first story when he was fifteen, which earned him enough money to buy a second-hand typewriter. His first novel, a humorous fantasy entitled The Carpet People, appeared in 1971 from the publisher Colin Smythe. Terry worked for many years as a journalist and press officer, writing in his spare time and publishing a number of novels, including his first Discworld novel, The Color of Magic, in 1983. In 1987 he turned to writing full time, and has not looked back since. To date there are a total of 36 books in the Discworld series, of which four (so far) are written for children. The first of these children's books, The Amazing Maurice and His Educated Rodents, won the Carnegie Medal. A non-Discworld book, Good Omens, his 1990 collaboration with Neil Gaiman, has been a longtime bestseller, and was reissued in hardcover by William Morrow in early 2006 (it is also available as a mass market paperback (Harper Torch, 2006) and trade paperback (Harper Paperbacks, 2006). Terry's latest book, Nation, a non-Discworld standalone YA novel was published in October of 2008 and was an instant New York Times and London Times bestseller. Regarded as one of the most significant contemporary English-language satirists, Pratchett has won numerous literary awards, was named an Officer of the British Empire “for services to literature” in 1998, and has received four honorary doctorates from the Universities of Warwick, Portsmouth, Bath, and Bristol. His acclaimed novels have sold more than 55 million copies (give or take a few million) and have been translated into 36 languages. Terry Pratchett lived in England with his family, and spent too much time at his word processor. Some of Terry's accolades include: The Carnegie Medal, Locus Awards, the Mythopoetic Award, ALA Notable Books for Children, ALA Best Books for Young Adults, Book Sense 76 Pick, Prometheus Award and the British Fantasy Award.

Although I loved the original versions of this book, the publishers have gone all out in the illustrated version of the book on Kindle. With vivid colours and a lot of detail the illustrations alone can keep you laughing in the smallest detail of the scenes depicted.
I would highly suggest the illustrated version over the original just because of the additional layer of fun you can have with this book. Just be aware the dictionary works differently in this book to the others and does take a little longer to download then what you may be use to.
Rincewind returns in Eric in quite epic fashion, and the main plot of the story is an interesting subversion of Faust - where 'Eric' makes three wishes of Rincewind and we see Pratchett's take on these. It's hard to say much more without big spoilers but basically we see a lot of puns and literal twists on Eric's wishes, all the while a Demon-King attempts to catch up to the duo.
At just over 100 pages long Eric is closer to a Novella than a novel, but I didn't mind this I think the style of story lent itself to something shorter, I suspect that sustaining a whole novel on jokes would have gotten old quick.
Something a little funny to note is I feel like this book was somewhat edgier in humour than other books, which is partly why I wonder if Pratchett was blowing off steam or something. There's a lot of innuendo which is of course not absent from other books but just seemed a bit more in Eric.
Not much else to say about this instalment, I wonder if it was largely written as an explanation to get Rincewind back as while I have no sauce for this it seems at the time Rincewind was a bit of a fan favourite and was essentially left for dead in his last book - and fans were bothered.

This edition is on high-quality paper and illustrated every few pages either with a detail or complete 2-page spread, and this adds to the storytelling. If however you are obsessed by the appearance of your bookshelves, this one will stick out as it's slightly larger format than the rest of the paperback series.
A fun read even years after it was first published.
J'ai hâte d'entamer ma lecture!
Le illustrazioni non sono necessarie alla storia, ma creano piacevoli intermezzi. Consiglio caldamente l'edizione illustrata a tutti i fan della saga
