What I have presented here is a memoir. It is a true story, but of course, it cannot contain the whole of a life. Primarily, the story I wanted to tell is a story of faith: a faith that was tried to the point of breaking, but without which I would not have survived to find the strength I now know is always available to me. To learn that even when we are at the end of our rope, if we will only listen to the One who created us and everything else, we will hear, loud and clear, that we are loved beyond measure and will not be left alone.

My name is Nasrin Tofighian Rouhani. I was born and raised in Iran. I graduated from nursing school in Shiraz in 1966 and married the same year the young man I fell in love with. Having a one year old son, Aram, we travelled to United States as my husband, Iraj, was accepted as a graduate student at university of Georgia in Athens. He received his PhD in horticulture and had his job as an assistant professor at Pahlavi University waiting for him. My daughter, Azi, was born after we returned back to Shiraz.

My story is what happened to us after Iran’s Islamic Revolution in 1979.

We had to escape Iran in cold and snow in December of 1982. We were already interrogated separately and in danger for arrest, imprisonment and possibly execution for being Baha’is. …..

THE MAN BEHIND THE SHOWCASE is a true story of the fear and suffering we went through not only in Iran but in United States as refugees.
