Product Description

Trail Camera
Spypoint CELL-LINK

CELL-LINK

SPYPOINT UNIVERSAL CELLULAR ADAPTER

The CELL-LINK takes your scouting to the next level, the cellular level, by turning your current non-cellular camera into a cellular capable device. You no longer have to make trips to pull cards, risking leaving your scent behind, or wait weeks to see what bucks are showing up on camera. Take advantage of the SPYPOINT EXPERIENCE and the advanced digital scouting features that come with it.

REDUCE SPOOKED GAME

The CELL-LINK is ultra-compact, about the size of your fist, to avoid drawing unwanted attention to your camera. The compact design means you can carry several, along with their cameras, in your pack when setting up cameras. Big technology doesn’t have to come in a big package.

UNIVERSAL COMPATIBILITY

The CELL-LINK can turn virtually any non-cellular camera that uses a standard SD card slot into a cellular trail camera almost instantly, regardless of manufacturer. Because the CELL-LINK uses the SD card slot to access the camera’s images and send them to the SPYPOINT mobile app. ***Compatible with cameras that use an SD card of 20 megapixels or less

BEST PRACTICES

  • Use Fresh Lithium Batteries
  • Format the SD Card
  • Validate the steadiness of the cellular signal in the area
Test

How to Activate your CELL-LINK Device

We recommend activating and testing your camera at home, before installing it in the field and testing it once more. We understand that you want to get your camera up and running as quickly as possible, but it's important to follow best practices to have it work optimally.

You will need

  • A fully charged Lithium Battery Pack or 8 new non-rechargeable AA batteries (Lithium or Alkaline). Here is a video for more information on batteries.
  • A long-formatted MicroSD card (class 10, 2 to 32 GB, SDHC), preferably new. Here are the article and video for more information on SD and MicroSD cards.
  • Ensure both the batteries and the MicroSD card are from a reputable brand to avoid unnecessary issues.
  • You should also format the SD cable adapter. Insert the SD card at the end of the cable into your computer just as you would a standard SD card. Then uncheck “Quick Format” and start the formatting.

1) Make sure your device is powered OFF. 2) Insert the MicroSD card. 3) Go to SPYPOINT App.

SPYPOINT Trail Camera Application Hunting Device

Note on camera settings

We recommend waiting until both your at-home and in-the-field tests are both successfully complete before changing your camera settings. For more information on camera settings, please watch the Basic Settings, Cellular Setup Settings and Advanced Settings videos.

Can be a challenge.
3 Stars
Can be a challenge.
1. Once you get it working, should be OK.2. Product Instructions Are Lacking.I bought one after reading the reviews knowing this could be a challenging product. I pulled the camera from my hunting spot after 2 days and zero pictures. I set it up in my backyard, jerked around with formatting, on/off sequences, etc. and have come up with the "secret" sauce to get these working. You'll watch a ton of YouTube videos...3. I'll update this review once I've had the Cell-Link in the woods for two (2) weeks. If it works consistently for two weeks, good-to-go. If not, I'll be looking for an alternative product.4. Don't Pay $60 Bucks. You'll want your money back. Price point is $39.00 so, Amazon is expensive for this product...10/8/2022Cell Link is functioning properly after 5 weeks. Still sending images when they're captured by the camera. The App reports the batteries are at 70%. I'm using cheap Amazon Basics 1500 MAh AAs so, it's not eating the batteries. Cons-The quality of images sent to the phone is poor. It seems the SpyPoint could step it up a few pixels. They sell a Hi Res package but, I wouldn't pay for it as that doesn't suit my needs or budget. Upside is the images are stored on your SD card in the resolution of your camera settings. You'll have to pull the card to see them.A better antenna and possibly a signal booster may help. I haven't had any luck with 2 bars or less on the signal meter.

I now have a total of 4 of these set up around the farm. All function as expected and deliver photos daily. I have one that was giving a disconnected cable message the first few days, but was still sending photos. Sometimes the photos can take a while to be delivered, but if you leave the app open on your phone it takes a minute or less. It's nice not to have to go check memory cards on a regular basis. The Cell-Links have been a valuable asset in reducing the coyote population as they tend to get wary of calls after a while. Receive an alert, check photo and grab rifle. The local deer population has been reduced to next to nothing, but I imagine these could be helpful if there were any. I have read reports of poor battery life. I just replaced batteries June 15 in the first one I installed March 10th. So I would say for me that is not an issue. Back packing season is here and I'm considering taking one of my setups to my favorite wilderness area for the summer or maybe try one of the new cell cameras Spypoint is coming out with. So yes, nothing to complain about. I researched many different cell cameras and read conflicting reviews on Spypoint, but not a problem for me.

I ordered one of these through Amazon. It was supposed to be compatible with any trail camera. It did not work. I returned it for replacement. I put it into the new camera and still no pictures. According to the SpyPoint App the device is communicating with the appropriate servers. Interestingly, on occasion, if I pulled up data for weather on either of my two devices the weather reported in in Elden Kansas. My devices are in Pennsylvania. I put the Cell-Link in an old SpyPoint camera and it still does not transmit pictures. All power and signal strength requirements were in specifications. Support is a joke. Can't even get help on chat line. was on for nearly an hour and dropped! I would not recommend anything Spy Point!

12/31/2023 UPDATE-
After contacting Amazon for replacement of the previous Cell-Link by SpyPoint, I received a replacement. After following activation instructions, I placed the unit in the field attached to my Browning Trail camera.. Again, it did not work. Contacted customer support AGAIN. Explained the problem. Since I was not near the camera, they tried to resolve the issue remotely. After much time and typing back and forth on their Chat line, it was determined I needed to get the camera and do a firmware update. I completed this and returned the camera to the field. Again, it did not work. I had to return to the camera nearly 20 miles away and after an hour on their web site "chatting" was told the SD cable needed replaced. I was also advised that the cable was out of warrenty after less than 60 days of ownership it was out of warranty! Despite my reasoning and pleas for assistance in getting a free replacement I was told I would have to pay for a new one! I would DEFINITELY NOT recommend any SpyPoint products to anyone and CERTAINLY would not recommend the Cell-Link!

Reviewed in the United States on October 27, 2022
I have been running Cell Links for three years now. I have four cameras in different parts of Texas and for the most part have been very happy with this product. I had a location fail a few months back and went out to retrieve the camera and bring it back to the DFW area. I do that because I think when you start up these Cell links its best to have them in good cellular coverage areas if they need updates. I will start up a new Cell Link and will run it a few weeks prior to transfering it to its remote location.

I brought all four cameras (Bushnell Trophy Cam HDs) and their attendant Cell Links back to DFW about a month ago. I cleaned them up and put in fresh batteries and set them up in my back yard. Three of the four pairs worked very well and are reporting awesome photos but a fourth pair (Bushnell Trophy Cam HD and Cell Link) just wasn't reporting anything. That was the same thing that happened from its West Texas location. Long story short I contacted Spypoint via their chat window. I spent a couple of hours of back and forth with a tech that had no clue about how the product worked. I ended up trying to upload new version of firmware but it wouldn't take. Today the fifth new Spypoint Cell Link was delivered and appears to work perfectly with the came the "old" Cell Link wasn't communicating with.

All in all for the price I'm satisfied. If better customer service added another $20 to the Cell Link's price I may be inclined to explore other options. I have bad days and some of the stuff we buy has bad days. The new Cell Link just sent me another pic so I am back to restoring observation at my 4th location.
