I recieved this wood today and three of the four board were dead flat, straight and had excellent color and grain, Beautiful wood. the fourth board had a twist. This is because it has reaction wood in it. The tree probably grew on the side of a hill. You could try to flatten this board on a jointer until the cow came home but it would still twist because of the internal stresses in the wood fibers from how the tree grew. It's always helpful to know where log were harvested from to avoid reaction wood. I am going to reorder to get what i need. I have a degree in forestrery and a B.S in Wood Technology from UMass. I was a student of R. Bruce Hoadely at UMass for a number years. I spent forty years working for some very large
architectural millwork companies selling drafting building millwork,store fixtues. I was the supervised up to 60 dtraftsmen and project managers. I set the schedule for 80 million dollars of work.
With my degrees and work life i know wood. This board has reaction wood and nothing could have been done to avoid it twisting

Ordered 1/4" thick boards for a project, expected material to be S4S. Material I received still has heavy saw marks on faces. One board measures only .190" at its thinnest section.

Edit: Returned boards and requested replacement. New boards are better quality, I can use them, but seller advertises surfaced both faces. These are planed one side only, back side has bandsaw marks.

Upgrading to 4 stars for customer service, but won't purchase from this seller again

Uneven, twisted boards

I ordered 2 pieces of 1/4" - 8" wide boards to do some inlays on some signs. The boards were .30" on one side, and .24" on the other. I had to run it through my own planer. I should have known better than to order wood off of Amazon, but was in a pinch. For the price of this wood, you would think it would be straight, square, and planed to an even thickness. It was none of these. Google "hardwood project boards" and there are some actual mills that will send higher quality material for way less money. The cost of lumber is going up, and this seller took advantage of that by selling garbage and marketing it as something different.
