About the author

Rita D. Jacobs is a writer and Professor of English at Montclair State University. A widely published journalist, her books include A Day in the Life of America, A Day in the Life of Canada, A Day in the Life of Japan and Tommy, The Musical. Her book The Way In: Journal Writing for Self-Discovery was first published in 2001 by Stewart, Tabori & Chang. She teaches and lectures about journal writing as well as American literature around the world. She served as academic literary consultant to the ABC-TV series on the 20th Century and her many published articles are frequently profiles of well known artists and photographers, discussions of the arts and travel pieces. They have appeared in The New York Times, The Los Angeles Times, PARADE Magazine, Diversion, Frequent Flyer, Glamour, SELF and GRAPHIS, among others. She is currently working on several writing projects, one of which is an academic murder mystery set in New York City where she lives. None of the characters bear any resemblance to her colleagues. Jacobs received a Ph.D. in English and American Literature from the University of Pennsylvania.
