Description: | Hyphae not stout; 20-30 μ in diameter. Gemmae abundant; clavate, pyriform or irregular; terminal; single or frequently catenulate; functioning as oogonia or zoosporangia. Zoosporangia abundant; cylindrical, clavate, straight, (80)-100-250-(500) × 20-30 μ; renewed by internal proliferation. Zoospore discharge saprolegnoid. Oogonia usualluy sparse, often formed only after prolonged period of time; terminal or lateral; clavate, pyriform or irregular; 40-80 × 60-100 μ. Oogonial wall unpitted, thin, smooth. Oospheres maturing. Oospores subcentric. Autheridial branches diclinous, often wrapping about the oogonium. Antheridial cell tubular or clavate, simple; laterally appressed. Antheridial cell not persistent. | |||
