The Labour Auditor's Office on Wednesday called for a fine of €14,400 to be imposed on Dinant's Deputy Mayor, Robert Closset, before the Namur Criminal Court, following charges brought against him in connection with his work as a breakdown mechanic.

A fine of €24,000 is sought against his breakdown company. A third defendant was ordered to pay €4,800. The repayment of €19,073 unduly received is demanded against Closset and the third defendant.

According to the labour auditorate, three people observed at work on behalf of the contractor in 2019 and 2020 were not subject to immediate declarations of work (Dimona).

One of these men, who was unemployed due to force majeure, was observed at work. This man, the only employee of Eco-Transports, received €19,073 between 15 March 2020 and 1 April 2021. During this period, a temporary worker worked on several occasions for the contractor, who refutes all the accusations.

"My only worker is, in fact, my godson. It was in a private capacity that he carried out work at my home, which is located right next to my company's head office," Closset insisted.

The acquittal is pleaded by counsel for the company, the worker and Closset. Judgement will be handed down on 25 October.
