notes

Rosa filipes Kiftsgate is perfect if you want to cover a fence, building or tree with disarmingly wonderful white blooms. Extremely vigorous, it is not for the faint hearted, but if you have the room it flowers at length once a year (early for a rambler), and the multiple, cascading blooms scent the air and attract native pollinators. Deep coral, oval hips appear in autumn. Image courtesy of David Austin Roses.

Please note, our roses are available to purchase all year round, so depending on the time of year your rose may either arrive in bloom or have been pruned or deadheaded appropriately for the season.

Insights

This rose is revered for its determined vigour. It was introduced in 1964 by the remarkable scholar and ecologist Hilda Murrell, who inherited a nursery and became a serious rose breeder. She named the rose after the garden in which the original seedling was discovered - Kiftsgate Court in Gloucestershire, where the rose is rampant!
