Meeting with the Greek President:
Gudrun Mosler-T�rnstr�m calls for greater solidarity with Greece  [27/04/2017]

At the meeting with the President of Greece, Prokopios Pavlopoulos, on 26 April 2017, Congress President Gudrun Mosler-T�rnstr�m recalled the importance ''of the role of local and regional authorities in the face of the difficulties facing Greece today ''. In particular, she stressed ''the essential role of towns and regions in the reception and integration of refugees, despite the inadequate means at their disposal''. In this perspective, she called for ''greater European solidarity with Greece''. The Greek President, for his part, insisted on ''the situation of coastal and island communities, which are facing the most important challenges''. He welcomed the work and support that Congress has given to his country. The President of the Congress will have another official meeting with the Greek President, in Athens, on 25 May 2017, on the occasion of the Conference on ''Human dignity in times of conflict and crisis - Human rights and humanitarian law'' (26-27 May 2017, Napflion).

Lors de la rencontre avec le Pr�sident de la Gr�ce, Prokopios Pavlopoulos, le 26 avril 2017, la Pr�sidente du Congr�s, Gudrun Mosler-T�rnstr�m, a rappel� l�importance � du r�le des collectivit�s territoriales face aux difficult�s que traverse aujourd�hui la Gr�ce �. Elle a, en particulier, soulign� � le r�le essentiel des communes et des r�gions dans l�accueil et l�int�gration des r�fugi�s malgr� les moyens insuffisants dont elles disposent �. Dans cette perspective, elle a appel� � � une plus grande solidarit� europ�enne vis-�-vis de la Gr�ce �. Le Pr�sident grec a, quant � lui, insist� sur � la situation des communes littorales et insulaires qui font face aux d�fis les plus importants �. Il a salu� le travail et le soutien que le Congr�s a apport� � son pays. La Pr�sidente du Congr�s rencontrera � nouveau officiellement le Pr�sident grec � Ath�nes, le 25 mai 2017, � l�occasion de la Conf�rence sur � La dignit� humaine en p�riode de conflits et de crises - Droits de l'homme et droit humanitaire � (26-27 mai 2017, Napflion).
