'I've been a size 16 to a double-zero and everything in between': Former plus-size model Crystal Renn shows off continued weight loss at Sports Illustrated launch

Slim: Former plus-size model Crystal Renn, who was once size 16 (right in 2009) but has also struggled with anorexia, showed off her continued weight loss at the Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition launch yesterday

Crystal shows off her slimmer figure in an array of bathing suits in the hotly-anticipated issue.

Speaking to ET about her weight this week, Crystal said: 'I've been a double-zero, children's clothes, at 95 pounds, and I've been all the way up to a size 16 and everything in between. [Now I’m] a 6, 8, sometimes a 10 depending on what designer I'm wearing. And that's an interesting place to be in fashion, where extremes are the norm.’

The model has openly discussed her former battle with anorexia and poor eating habits, confessing to only drinking Diet Coke and slurping sugar-free Jello at one point in her life.

She said she doesn’t allow her figure to control whether she is 'happy or not' and addressed rumours she was again suffering from an eating disorder.

The model burst on the scene after being scouted in her home town of Clinton, Mississippi at age 14.

She was apparently told she would need to lose a third of her total body weight, but after years of battling with anorexia, she gained 70 pounds and re-emerged as a plus-size model.

She even penned a book called Hungry: A Young Model's Story of Appetite, Ambition and the Ultimate Embrace of Curves, about her experiences in the fashion industry in relation to her several body type transformations.

But after losing weight again, Crystal claimed a 'horrible breakup' and hiking and yoga was behind her slimmer body.

The model had ended her two-year marriage to longtime boyfriend Gregory Vrecenak in 2009.

She came under attack in the plus-size community for her new figure last month.

'Everyone rallied around her and now she’s turned against us,' PLUS Model Magazine Editor-in-Chief Madeline Jones told RadarOnline.com.

'We have been betrayed by her.

'Crystal was the biggest plus size supermodel in our era and a lot of readers aspired to be like her.

'We supported her one hundred percent.

Jones didn't believe her explanation for losing weight.

'“You don’t lose that much weight doing yoga and hiking! You have to put a lot of effort  to go from a 14 to a size 6.

'We’re not that stupid, we know how hard it is to lose weight and she insulted our intelligence.

'The thinner she got the more she was being pitched to mainstream brands. Suddenly the same woman who wrote Hungry was slimming and slimming.

'Once she got down to a size 10 she lost the support of a lot of people. We’re disappointed because she was our star fighting for equality and fashion for us, and now she’s going to their side.

'It is sad that she’s turned her back on us.'

'She should have said she wasn’t comfortable in her skin anymore and wanted to make more money. Instead she has deceived us and we feel insulted!

'It would be great for her to come out with a better explanation, though I doubt we will get one.'

Crystal hit back on her blog, saying: 'When this whole weight loss thing happened, I think that a lot of people wanted to point their finger at somebody.

'I think that they wanted to find a conspiracy where there absolutely was none. A lot of people said the industry was pressuring me, my agency was pressuring me, I was pressuring me, but it was just not the case in all three cases... I had anorexia ultimately because someone else set the standard for me and I wanted to follow it.'

Crystal said she enjoyed posing for Swimsuit Illustrated because they celebrated womanly curves.

'There's a woman at SI who's made it a point to make sure that the models are healthy. They're not interested in who's the thinnest model of them all, they're about the girl. We all have different bodies. There's not one type that's idealized.

'I felt comfortable with my body. I have found a place of stability when it comes to how to view my figure.'

Crystal yesterday joined models Chrissy Teigen, Izabel Goulart and Nina Agdal, who have also posed for the latest issue, in Sin City.

They headed to Planet Hollywood Casino and Hotel, where they placed hand prints in cement to celebrate their placement in the annual swimsuit edition of the popular magazine.

Though many non-models have appeared within the magazine's pages, the first such famous face to adorn the cover was Beyoncé Knowles in 2007.

Outside the modelling world, the blonde teen who was raised in Florida, is a keen equestrian and has won a number of championship competitions.

Kate has also debuted on the silver screen this year in Tower Heist with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy and applied her newly discovered acting talent to the Farrelly brothers' latest comedy, The Three Stooges, due for release in April.
