SpongeBob SquarePants might be the epitome of innocence, but his friend Patrick Star has apparently been exposed as an evil sea creature.

Yes, Patrick might seem cuddly and innocent, but according to a new Twitter trend, he's actually pretty terrifying.

Some internet users have found a particularly dodgy screenshot of Patrick and created a brand new meme, called 'Savage Patrick'.

The screenshot comes from a season one episode called 'Nature Pants', from a moment in which Patrick pins his best pal SpongeBob to the ground so that he'll stop believing he's a jellyfish.

And now Patrick is up to all manner of things, if you believe Twitter users:

Of course, this isn't the first time the cartoon has become a major meme.

In 2016, Caveman SpongeBob was all over the internet, before Confused Mr. Krabs became a thing.

So what's going to be the next big SpongeBob meme? We definitely have our fingers crossed for a Squidward joke next.

Some fans were recently fooled by a hoax tweet which claimed that the cartoon has been cancelled.

A screenshot was circulating of what appeared to be a tweet by the official SpongeBob account saying that the show was "coming to a final end".

Thankfully, the tweet hadn't been posted on the show's real account – so the sponge lives on.
