An excellent volume detailing the fundamental of the Catholic Church. I went through years of Catholic School and say say that I wished they used this as the textbook. If you want to understand your faith as a Catholic, then get this book. It's easy to read, well cited, and will give you a greater appreciation of Catholicism in an increasingly secular world. Based on the Holy Bible, 2000-6000 years of tradition and doctrine and natural law. It's a bargain for what you get. Use it to reboot your faith, your family and your home traditions. This version is excellent, I recommend it. Best to get it before the horrors of modernism and liberation theology ruin the remains of the Church (like they did to the Latin Mass and Ecclesiastical Latin... As if the story of Babel wasn't clear.. who ever thought that being able to go to any church on Earth and understanding your mass or talk to another Catholic in Latin was a bad thing?). Highly recommend.Read full review

I hadn't read any version of the Catechism of the Catholic Church since I was in grade school and provided with an age-appropriate version. I never followed through on my religion, and now, more than 40 years later, I want to know what the Church really says...what it stands for...what it means...and where it fits into my life. This Catechism gives me the answers I've needed. It is well organized, thorough, and written in straighforward language for the serious student of Catholicism, whether returning to the Church, researching a question, or simply satisfying one's curiosity. I think that this version will ultimately meet the needs of anyone who is truly interested in the depth and breadth of Catholocism. It is not interpretation of the subject matter by a clergyman, but a true guide to being Catholic as "authorized" by Pope John Paul II. There is no substitute for it -- only lesser versions. I highly recommend it.Read full review
This edition of the Catechism is the most recent version. The layout makes it easy to follow. It is an excellent reference book, but can also serve as good reading material, although too lengthy to read completely in a short period of time. There is a wealth of information about the Catholic Church's teachings and doctrines and is written in plain English, with the explanations easy to understand. The back has several appendices which will prove helpful when attempting to cite specific sections of the book. There is also historical data, such as Church Councils and Synods, Pontifical Documents, Ecclesiastical documents, glossary, the index, and more. A very comprehensive book that should be in every Catholic household.
You don't need the newer version because there is only one change. Pope Francis' position on capital punishment has changed in the catechism. But, you can print that out online free if you want it. If you have any question at all as to what the Catholic Church believes, their position, it's easy to look up in this book. And, the type is a good size for any age eyes. I would recommend this version above any other available at this time. And it's written in a way anyone can quickly understand it.
