Flanders (Belgium) rejects Engie's gas-fired project in Vilvorde

The Flemish Environment Ministry (Belgium) has authorised Luminus to expand the capacity of its Wondelgem gas-fired plant neat Ghent from 390 MW to 674 MW by 2025, provided it is carbon neutral by 2040, but it has refused to grant a permit for the construction of a new gas-fired power plant in Vilvorde. The 255 MW project, developed by Engie through its Belgian affiliate Engie Electrabel, was selected in the country's first capacity remuneration mechanism (CRM) auction for the 2025-2026 delivery year. In addition,

The Flemish Environment Ministry has already refused to grant permits for the extension of the Dilsen-Stokkem power plant and for the construction of a new gas-fired power plant in Tessenderlo, considering that the environmental impact assessment was not considering all impacts. Tessenderlo Group, which operates the 422 MW Beringen Tessenderlo gas-fired CCGT power plant, was seeking to add a gas-steam turbine to reach a total capacity of 900 MW.
