BLUSH TOMATO SEEDS

Solanum lycopersicum

ORGANIC

Bred by Fred Hemphel before his Artisan Seeds became a big deal, and introduced by Seeds of Change in 2011. In spring of 2020 I dug out my original 2011 seed packet, grew out a few plants, and was reminded of just how delicious and truly unique this tomato is.

Blush tomatoes are borne in clusters on short wispy indeterminate plants that don't grow much more than 4', but must be carefully staked and caged lest they collapse under their own weight. Pale orange torpedo-shaped fruits are subtly striped and have a little nipple end. Ripe tomatoes should not be picked until they develop the namesake blush of pink. Flavor is extraordinary: clean, sweet and tropical. Perfect with brie and fresh goat cheese, or just eaten out of hand like grapes.

Though they are not the most productive plants intially, they produce fairly early and over a long season. Notably, they tolerate cool temperatures better than most tomatoes, and are one of the few plants still churning out fruit in October. Highly recommended for gardeners in cool maritime climates.

Packet contains at least 20 seeds.
