Robert Charles Imler

Robert C. Imler of Noblesville, IN, 78, the only child of Charles and Belva Imler, died July 7, 2023 of pancreatic cancer. He was born in Frankfort, IN, in 1944. He married Barbara Campbell of Detroit who survives, and they were married 55 years.

He is survived by children Stacie Bergdoll (Brant), James Imler (Anne Weiss), and Stephanie Knoth (Chris); and 7 grandchildren, Owen and Claire Bergdoll, Millicent and Otto Imler, and Rowan, Max, and Willa Knoth.

Mr. Imler attended Riley Grade School and Frankfort Senior High School. He also attended Michigan State University as a National Merit Scholar and received an MA from Ball State University. He worked for many years as a journalist in Washington State and Indiana.

During his more than 20 years of National Guard and Army service, he received a Bronze Star, the Cross of Gallantry with Palm, the Distinguished Service Medal, and several State medals.

Through his years in journalism, he earned several awards and prizes for outstanding journalistic accomplishment and never encountered a witticism he did not appropriate.

Mr. Imler’s ashes will be scattered on the family property near Lake Manistee, Michigan.

A gathering of friends and family will be held July 28, 2023 at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 E. Carmel Dr., Carmel, IN from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm. A service will follow beginning at 3:30 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Jay County Public Library.
