  1. Golightly first debuted NOT in the iconic 1961 Breakfast at Tiffany's film, but in Truman Capote's 1958 novelette of the same name.

  2. Contrary to the eccentric, fun-loving character Audrey Hepburn played, Capote's original leading lady was more or less depicted as a local call girl.

  3. The original Golightly (a.k.a. the Texas-born Lula Mae Barnes) turns 50 years old today! (Sorry Madge, you're not the only hot 50-something worthy of a shout-out!)

Shocked? Surprised? Did a faint "Oh yeah that's right, I forgot about that…" or "Damn, I really should have read more classics in college" alarm just go off in your head?

If so—or, even if it's not-be sure to pick up the gorge anniversary issue of Truman Capote's Breakfast at Tiffany's. Besides being a moving, memorable and quick read, Capote's tome is a must-have for any fashion library—even if it doesn't inspire a case of unshakable closet-envy as the film's trendsetting scenes did.
