I’m a wife, a mother, and an artist…which means I’m always busy and sometimes messy! I have a B.A. in English from McDaniel College, and in April of 2013, I published my first e-book, Crochet 101. Here at One Artsy Mama, I share a variety of project types including home decor, fashion, kids’ crafts, sewing, jewelry, crochet and more. My favorite topic, though, is hand lettering. On July 11, 2017, my book Hand Lettering for Relaxation was released and in the following year it went to print four more times. Since then, a Portugese version, Calagrafia para Relaxar has made waves in Brazil, and I’ve written a lettering book for kids that was released in October 2018. My next book, Hand Lettering for Laughter, will release in April of 2019.

In December 2015, one of my hand lettered gift tags was featured in a Christmas wrapping kit for sale in GAP stores across the United States. I am also honored to be the recipient of The Craftys’ 2015 “Best Craft Blogger” award, as well as being voted the top Crafty Blogger of 2015 in the SwayyEm community. In 2016, one of my coffee cup designs appeared in a nationwide Starbucks holiday commercial, and I signed on with Page Street Publishing Company. In 2017, though, I experienced the adventure of a lifetime as our family expanded through international adoption.

I am happiest when creating something and enjoy making all kinds of projects with my 10 year old “Little Crafter” and my 11 year old “Scout.” In my spare time {if there ever is any!}, I am a professional ballroom, latin, and swing dancer. When not on the dance floor or crafting, you can probably find me at Starbucks.

Doodle Everything: Learn to Draw with 400+ Easy, Adorable Designs brings step-by-step examples of simple line art pieces reflective of the world around us with a cutesy feel. From things you'd find at the coffee shop to a walk in the woods to a day at school, Doodle Everything covers a lot of ground.

I made the mistake of trying to read this straight through (if I don't, it doesn't feel complete!). What this book is better suited for is serving as a reference to flip through and identify pieces as needed. The chapters categorized more or less by location along with a thorough index makes this easy to do, so it's perfect for teachers looking to embellish their classroom art, pen pals hoping to jazz up their missives, and the average bored person looking to fill a few minutes with a small doodle.

Whether this book will teach you to draw, however, is a different story. You may walk away from Doodle Everything with an ability to essentially copy-paste the designs in the book, but you probably won't be able to do a whole lot with drawing from scratch. Doodle Everything does often utilize common shapes, and there's a lesson there for anyone paying attention that you can reapply these simple shapes to create other drawings, but it's not super explicit. Furthermore, even when these simple shapes are present in a given example, it's often overlooked with phrases like, "Draw the handles on the bike" rather than "draw rectangles for handles on the bike." There's some of the latter, but it's inconsistent throughout and while it may seem simple and obvious, I think that reinforcement can go a long way to accomplishing the "Learn to Draw" piece of the subtitle.

I enjoyed the overall style of the drawings and they were generally consistent with one another. I would have liked more text on how, specifically, this is achieved. The reader does get the step-by-steps demonstrated for most items so they can see their formation on the page, but not always with as much detail as possible.

A decent reference, but had room to be further realized.

I can't say enough about this doodling book! It really is geared to all ages and levels of doodlers! I went through all the pages to see what was offered, then went back and made Halloween cards with some of the doodles. You can even practice on the pages - there's space for that. I'm planning on doing my holiday cards with these doodles, too. Believe me, anyone can do them from young children to adults who felt they could never even hold a pencil. Very glad I purchased this one! You will be, too! SO HAPPY DOODLING! Thank you, Amy Latta!!!!!
