Thomas is going on a special trip to the circus, and there are lots of wonderful things to discover along the way--a beautiful hot air balloon, a playful dolphin, and a barrel of monkeys, just to name a few! Lift and peek behind the many flaps and see the hidden surprises. Preschoolers will want to climb on board with this fun transportation shaped flap book, bursting with treasures on every page!
Wilbert Vere Awdry, OBE, better known as the Rev. W. Awdry, was an English clergyman, railway enthusiast and children's author, and creator of Thomas the Tank Engine, who starred in Awdry's acclaimed Railway Series.
The characters that would make Awdry famous, and the first stories featuring them, were invented in 1943 to amuse his son Christopher during a bout of measles. The first book (The Three Railway Engines) was published in 1945, and by the time Awdry stopped writing in 1972, The Railway Series numbered 26 books. Christopher subsequently added further books to the series.
A pretty decent Thomas the Tank Engine book with some meat to it. Fun lift and peek flaps that delight the preschoolers and lots of detailed pictures to expand vocabulary, make this a learning book as well as something every young train fan can appreciate. A good starter book.

A lift-the-flaps book that holds the bean's attention, in part because the flaps aren't the center of the page, as they are in most of the books of this type he owns; there are little side flaps and suchlike that provide a refreshing change of pace. Another Thomas book that will go better with kids who are already fans of the series, but for them, it's worth checking out. ** ½
I think the flaps and the pictures behind them are a bit too small for tiny fingers to do, but otherwise it's fun and satisfies my toddler's request for "Choo-choo!"
