Gorgeous! Looks a lot like Gordonia ;-)

Nice! If you want to control pests chewing on leaves and such, put a little bit of dawn and then fill it up with water (in a spray bottle). I spray lots of my container plants monthly with this solution for spider mite control (they are a HUGE problem for me).

Some of it looks like it could be weevils. Other parts I don't know - maybe caterpillars. If you try a USDA Cooperative Extension office they can probably tell you.

Polyspora is the new name for Gordonia.

I wonder when that happened.

Molecular evidence has shown that Polyspora is not closely related to Gordonia J. Ellis, which is now considered to be strictly a New World genus (Prince & Parks, Amer. J. Bot. 88: 2309-2320. 2001; Yang et al., Pl. Syst. Evol. 248: 45-55. 2004).

If you open the above link Flora of China also says there is about 40 species of Polyspora. For whatever reason the 2014 edition of The Hillier Manual of Trees & Shrubs (Hillier Nurseries and The Royal Horticultural Society) says instead there are as many as 65 species of Gordonia native to the US and Asia, 4 species of Polyspora.

Caterpillars! Last night I removed two off the leaves. Smooth green about 1 and half to 2" long. Now to find a way to control the voracious critters.
